September 11, 2001, The attack on America.

Role of the NCVFD in the aftermath of the devastating attack:

bulletThe Fire Company was enlisted to assist Staten Island Rescue 5, who lost eleven fire fighters at the World Trade Center.
bulletThe NCVFD and its Engine 5 handled calls in Staten Island on September 12 and 13th, acting as FDNY engine 160.
bulletOur firefighters worked with surviving FDNY members to restore Rescue 5 so it could  perform its duties again.  Rescue 5 was the only FDNY rescue truck that was able to be repaired and placed back in service after the attack.
bulletThe company continued to give support to Rescue 5, donating its annual fundraising pancake breakfast proceeds in October, 2001 to the families of the men lost on Rescue 5 that day.
bulletIn recognition of their volunteer service to the people of New York in the aftermath of the horrendous attack, the Mayor and Township Council of North Caldwell issued special commendation to honor the many members of the Fire Company, as well as to equally heroic Township Police officers who rushed to help out their comrades in uniform In the City of New York.

North Caldwell's Engine 5 bears a special commemoration of its service to the citizens of the city of New York.
